This method of cooking brown rice involves coating the rice in oil before
boiling it, to prevent the grains from sticking together.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of brown rice
  • 1 7/8 cups of water (1 3/4 cups per cup of rice, plus an extra 1/8 cup)
  • 1 T olive oil

Instructions

You need two pots for this cooking method. In one pot, start the water boiling. In the other (which should have a tight-fitting lid), begin heating the oil. Rinse the rice in a strainer, and shake off most of the water. Saute the rice in the oil until it stops hissing. When the water in the other pot reaches a rolling boil, pour it over the rice and cover the pot immediately. Reduce the heat, and let it simmer for 45 minutes. Then remove the pot from the heat and let it stand for another 20 minutes before serving.
